On 11th August 07, I received this message from Mark:

Will', is as ever, the centre of the family, he is always there, in the middle of things. As the children have grown up, he has grown up with them, part of them, one of them. He is treated as he deserves, as one, equal with them. He is my right hand man, and sometimes my left also, he is my ever faithful, loving, devoted friend. When times have been difficult, my 'Will' has always been there for me, he listens, he may not know exactly what I am talking about, but he sure knows when I have not been in full spirits. I love my walks with him, he is a great companion, the best any person could hope to have. Jayne always knows where he is, all she has to do is fine out where I am, that's where 'Will' will be.

He is also the most inquisitive dog I have ever had the pleasure to know. If I have a parcel, or something new, he is there, checking it out with me. He also loves to be a part of working with me if I am working on the house, or the garden, I am convinced he knows more about DIY than most humans.

He is fearlessly protective of me, if any one should raise there voice to me, he will growl, give them one warning, (which usually does the trick), or start to bare his teeth and bark. We live near a golf course, recently there was some hikers crossing one of the footpaths near by, they stopped me and 'Will' to ask for directions, one of them raised their stick pointing in the direction I was giving them, however, 'Will' thought they were raising towards me, which resulted in a very loud bark and that expression of warning towards the innocent hiker.

Having said all that, he has a huge heart, he has endless amounts of compassion and understanding. If any of the family are ill, he always knows, and will constantly keep checking on them. He is the most loving dog I have ever come across, he is a big softy when it comes to the family. The perfect day for him is to get up, come and see me before going out to do his rounds, checking his territory, returning back to follow me around most of the morning. Then, its to play any game, usually involving a ball, which he can encourage the kids to play with him. Then he starts looking at me non stop until I take him for his daily walk. Three times to four times a week I go cross country running, yes, you've guessed, 'Will' loves running, he thinks its one big game, a chase. He runs jumping and playing in the long grass or the hedgerows, before he realises I have run on a further bit, whereby he chases after me, usually bring me down and wanting to play.

We still do agility with him, he never forgets anything, he knows every move. I can still go out for a whole days walk if I wanted to, without physically saying a word to him, just communicating on whistles alone, he knows so many different commands, I am always amazed how he can remember them all. I love my 'Will', my friend, my dog.
