We found about Lucy (when she was a baby puppy) quite by accident. Her breeder had apparently been let down by a couple of purchasers and we were asked if we had any enquiries, would we please pass them on?. Luckily, I'd said to Tony that we couldn't talk about puppies we hadn't seen, so we asked to visit them.
As we walked in....this one little black/white girl looked right at me and I felt my heart race! I didn't know it at the time but Tony had felt the same thing. We knew that we wanted that little girl. So, making a long story very much shorter, on 26th December 1999 Lucy came home with us. She was packed full of character, charisma, devastating charm and a very indignant attitude if she was told off for something she hadn't done or that wasn't her fault.
One time, Tony had told Lucy off for doing something. She marched herself to the far end of the dog run and sat with her back to Tony refusing point blank to acknowledge him until he apologised. It was someone else that had done the 'the wrong thing', not Lucy.
On another occasion we were at a show and Tony was handling Lucy (it has to be said that Tony isn't great at walking/trotting in striaght lines) and Lucy hadn't been able to give her best when it was her turn to 'strut her stuff'. As they left the ring, Tony said to her "Lucy, that was rubbish". She took it very personally and completely blanked Tony for the rest of the day. If he spoke to her she would snuggle up to me and pretend she hadn't heard him. Again Tony had to apolgise.
Lucy was a very beautiful black/white prick-eared girl, who sadly left for the Rainbow Bridge when her second litter of puppies were only an hour old. Lucy was very special and will live on in all of her children.
