When the Mystic litter was born, it had been decided that we'd keep a bitch puppy. It was agreed that it would be a Black/White girl and there were 2 to choose from that met our criteria. As the days passed and the puppies grew I fould myself favouring 1 girl on one day and the other on the next....and so it went on until all of the puppies had left home, except Fred, Fynn and Tasha. Along came Rob and Anita, a young couple starting their life together, who wanted a bitch puppy as a friend, companion and protection. Of course they wanted to know why there was only one puppy available (they perhaps might have thought that there was something wrong with one of them...which there was not) So I explained that it was simply because I couldn't make my mind up between the 2 girls.

Rob & Anita were offered their choice of bitch puppy, and they chose Tasha. They were very pleased with their puppy, and I was delighted that a decision had been made... it was looking like both girls were going to stay and that may not have been a good thing.

Anyway, Fynn stayed and it was right that she did. She grew into a beautiful young lady who did well in the breed ring and enjoyed her life.

Fynn gave us 2 wonderful litters. The first was by Show Champion Whenway Royal Highlander, this was the Arthurian Litter into which our Morgan was born. The second was by Monkfield Matador - the Explorers Litter - which produced all boys!

Fynn was also nicknamed 'shorty' because she didn't grow to the size we had expected she would, but she didn't reproduce that in her children which were all 'normal' size. After she'd had her second litter, we'd decided that that she should be neutered.

Some time after that we were approached, by relatives of Rob and Anita, enquiring if we had any puppies available or perhaps an older dog, as they'd just lost their old dog and needed another 'friend' in the family home. Fynn took to them immediately....even wrapping herself around the mans neck and showering him with kisses. It began to feel like we'd only been minding her until this new couple came along. We visited their house, and checked out everything we could. We then agreed that Fynn could be their new friend. When they came to collect her, she jumped in their vehicle and drove off without a backward glance.

Years passed and one day we had a call from the man asking if we could have Fynn back. It was not her fault. The marriage had broken down and the couple split up. Even through all of the sadness, that these situations bring, all he could focus on was doing the right thing for Fynn. We will always be grateful to him for that. So, she returned to us...walking right in as if she'd never been away. It will never cease to amaze me just how wonderfully adaptable Border Collies are.

Fynn's story doesn't end there though. She now lives with a wonderful couple, not 200 yards from the place was born. Simon found us through an internet search and he too was looking for an older dog, have just lost a very elderly lady. It was love at first sight. She wants for nothing and is the apple of her daddy's eye. We see her quite frequently and she clearly has a fabulous life.

Funny the way things work out sometimes, isn't it?
